Social Activism Choices
The book I’m
reading is Glimpse by Carol Williams. The book deals with
multiple issues but the big one is money and love and pain and unfairness, so
the topic I chose was “What really hard things are happening in this text? Are
these things happening in the world? Where?” I can’t even begin to imagine the
horrible things happening, but I know that people in the world have to face the
issues in the book.
Glimpse is about two twin teenage
girls Hope and Lizzy who live with their widowed mother. Their father was killed one night
going out to get Lizzy medicine. The mother has blamed Lizzy for the death of the father and the downfall of the family. But when Lizzy ends up trying to kill herself multiple times,
the main character, Hope, looks into her sister's pain.
The really hard thing going on in my
book, was the mother was selling Lizzy’s body to other men so that the family
could get some type of money because after the fathers death the family has low income. Lizzy tried to kill herself
because of the horrible things happening to her, she was raped every night of
the week by various men, and various times, and it was all her mothers doing. I
connected this book to human trafficking.
Human trafficking is where any one human is taken by men or women and sold into
prostitute houses or sweatshop type places. Human trafficking happens all over
the United States and has happened for awhile. I connected glimpse to human trafficking
because she was forced by one person to be pretty much raped by another person
i think your rr has a lot of emotion and that it tells us that the mother doesnt really care about the girl and that the mother might do anything for money
ReplyDeleteI liked that you gave a summery about the important part of this book. Also, i liked that you found the social issues in it and connected it to the real world. You stuck to one main topic so I could really understand the book without reading it. Now, I want to read it to see the connection for myself.
