How does money figure in this text?
In
the book Strange Perfections
all of the characters are doing the things that they are for money, money and
happiness. The two main characters Anne and Freya’s parents died in a car
accident after a lawyer took everything from their family, after Freya and
Anne’s father (who is a doctor) patient died. Because of their parents death
Freya and Anne lived a frugal life, but they both wanted something more then
their life style, they both wanted to be happy but be happy with no downfalls
and no reactions. Anne wanted to be a lawyer
even though lawyers were technically the people that ended her parent’s lives. It
took Anne a big portion of the book to actually come forward and tell her
sister that she wanted to be a lawyer.
When Anne makes the choice to become
a lawyer I think is mainly because of money, Freya’s neighbor and Anne’s friend
is a lawyer and he is happy doing his job. But he isn’t a heartless
ruthless lawyer like the ones that “killed” Anne’s parents. Best of all he has a large
income. I think that Anne is trying to find all the ways possible to connect to
her parents and I believe that being a lawyer is a benefit. If you are happy
doing something that you love, having a large income is just a plus. And if you
feel more connected to your parents its an all around win.
