Response to social injustice in the media
.
In the last
few weeks more then 19 million people were affected by Hurricane Sandy but the people most affected were the homeless and the poor.
Because hurricane sandy was so much worse then expected so many more people were
put out of their homes, and so many people were forced to evacuate but a lot of
wealthy or upper class people could return to their homes, or if their home was
damaged pay for repairs, but the homeless that are in shelters that didn’t have
homes to begin with might not have anywhere to go and restart what life they
had for months, and poor people who’s houses have been destroyed or damaged
might never have that house, they might never be able to have the life that the
thought was secure. But where is the justice and fairness in that? The wealthy can
continue their lives and be happy while the more unfortunate have to live in
shelters and try to find a way to live because they simply can’t afford it?
Hurricane
sandy has made a lot of issues come forward and a lot of issued show social
injustice in our current society. Why have Americans accepted the fate of
wealthy people getting more benefits and a better chance of having a house
during a natural disaster then a middle class working American, but its unfair
and there is no justice. The gap between what the wealthiest New Yorkers and
the lowest 20% is so large that it almost seems like the two different people
getting the two different incomes were from two completely different places,
but they weren’t, and the wealthy that didn’t get flooded and that could pay
for their houses did, and went back to their lives. While the people that couldn’t
pay, and whose houses got destroyed are now living it hotels and trying to find
an away to stay sane.
I
believe in fairness and equality and I believe that economy falls under fairness
and equality also, im not saying everyone should get money from bill gates, but
im saying when situations become as horrible as they were, and so many people
were put out of their homes, but only the wealthy could return. That’s when you
have to rethink what is happening with society and what is happing with
fairness and being just
